The stop-start method employs a stop-start device (16) with respective AND functions used for stopping the engine (2) when the vehicle is braked to a standstill simultaneous with engine stopping conditions being met and for re-starting the engine when re-starting conditions are met. The automatic stopping of the engine is dependent on the operating state of the oil system (56) for the automobile drive transmission (6).
