PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a far infrared light type snow melting apparatus, capable of improving heat and shock resistance of a far infrared heater made of ceramics, melting the snow to a comparatively distant snowfall surface as much as 2 m, and exhibiting high energy efficiency. SOLUTION: This far infrared light type snow melting apparatus includes a panel-like far infrared heater 10 formed by a ceramic single body or stacking ceramics on a metal plate, and a hood 20 accommodating the far infrared heater 10 and radiating far infrared rays from the far infrared heater 10 in the direction ranging as required for melting the snow. The ceramics has the characteristics such that a thermal conductivity is 8.5 W/m.K or more, and the coefficient of thermal expansion is 4×10<SP>-6</SP>/°C or less. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
