PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce operating force upon tilt adjustment and reduce cost while suppressing play in a tilt pivot in a tilt steering system. SOLUTION: The tilt steering system 1 has a lower portion fixing bracket 14 on a vehicle body, and a lower bracket 9 fixed to a steering column 4 and supported via the tilt pivot 13 for swing motion about it. A pair of side plates 30 of the lower portion fixing bracket 14 are positioned outside a pair of side plates 35 of the lower bracket 9. The tilt pivot 13 has a coupling shaft 19 passed through the side plates 35 and 30 of both brackets 9 and 14 to coupled them, and a collar 21 fitted round the coupling shaft 19. The collar 21 is passed in oblong holes 36 in the inner pair of side plates 35, and fixedly held between the outer side plates 30. The collar 21 has an elastically radially contractible C-shaped sectional form that abuts boundary edges of the oblong holes 36 to reduce friction against them in a low-cost manner.
