PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problem that damage or deformation occasionally occurs in a diaphragm due to overpressure applied thereto in a cleaning process and that such causes anomalous outputs after a plant restart to the detriment of plant operation. SOLUTION: Pressure is measured while a pressure transmitter performs in a normal way with a high pressure applied thereto and the value is recorded in a storage. A measurement is made when the transmitter is exposed to a high pressure for instance in a cleaning process, and then the value is compared with the value in the storage for detecting anomalies, such as damage or deformation of the diaphragm. Since anomalies in a pressure transmitter if any are detected before the restart of the plant, troubles in plant operation due to transmitter failure are prevented. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
