The invention relates to a process for producing epoxy resins having an average or a high molecular mass, used for preparing varnishes and paints, poureable, packaging and soaking compounds, which consists in reacting a diepoxy compound having an aromatic structure and a low or an average molecular mass, or a mixture thereof with a diepoxy compound having an aliphatic structure with a dihydroxyl aromatic compound, in the presence of a water-soluble catalyst selected from tertiary amine group, quaternary ammonium salts, metal salts, alkaline hydroxides in an amount from 5 to 150 ppm, introduced as a concentrate in emulsion, at a temperature ranging from 140...180 degree C for 1.5...4 h. An improved dispersion of the catalyst in the reaction mass and the obtaining, directly from the synthesis, of some epoxy resins having an average or a high molecular mass and particular characteristics are ensured.
