PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a cucurbit derivative, with which the cucurbit derivative is inexpensively mass produced in an extremely improved yield, to obtain a gas scavenger which has stable molecular structure, has lightweight and low toxicity, is safe, has excellent general purpose properties, is usable even in an aqueous solution and is composed of the cucurbit derivative and to provide a method for removing gas, with which not only gas is collected in the voids of the cucurbit derivative but also the gas molecule is released, activated and reused. SOLUTION: This method for producing the cucurbit derivative comprises reacting a glycoluril compound with an aldehyde and ammonium chloride in the presence of hydrochloric acid, isolating the ammonium chloride adduct, converting the ammonium chloride adduct into an ammonium hydroxide adduct and heating the ammonium chloride adduct under normal pressure or under reduced pressure to remove ammonium gas. This gas scavenger comprises the cucurbit derivative. This method for removing gas comprises using the gas scavenger. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
