Polymers having biocidal activity, process for their preparation and their use

Polymers prepared from N,N,N-trialkylammoniumalkyl (meth)acrylates have biocidal action on surfaces and textiles, provided they have long alkyl chains. Polymers consisting essentially of structural units of formula (I) or (II), of mol. wt. 1000-100,000 g/mole are new. R1 = 1-4C alkylene, R2 and R3 = 8-12C alkyl or alkenyl, R4 = Me or Et, R5 = H or Me Independent claims are also included for the following: (1) preparation of the polymers; and (2) new compounds of formula (V).
