PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a coating-defect detection apparatus by which a detectability factor of a coating defect becomes uniform even when a size or an external plate color of an antomotive body is different. SOLUTION: The coating-defect detection apparatus 1 which detects the coating defect of the coated automotive body in a detection process 16 comprises a translucent screen 13 installed at the detection process, a projection means 12 by which a stripe pattern 17 having a light and shade pattern is projected onto the translucent screen, a specification-information acquisition means 11 by which specification information on a vehicle width, a coating color or the like of the automotive body carried into the detection process is acquired and a control means 14 by which the stripe pattern to be projected onto the translucent screen is controlled according to the specification information on the automotive body acquired by the acquisition means.
