A toggle-action container dispensing closure (20) is provided for manipulation between a closed, non-dispensing orienta- tion and an open, dispensing orientation. The closure (20) includes an actuator (60) mounted on a body (24) secured to the con- tainer. The actuator (60) is tiltable be- tween a closed position and an open posi- tion. The body (24) has a severable abut- ment (110) under the actuator (60). The ac- tuator (60) has a shearing wall (140) con- fronting the abutment (110). The actuator (60) includes a depending structure defin- ing a pair of spaced-apart retaining surfaces (152) for sliding into engagement with the abutment (110) when the actuator (60) is subjected to at least a predetermined force to shear the abutment (110) whereby the sheared off abutment (110) is gripped be- tween the retaining surfaces (152).
