PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a photothermographic material having high sensitivity, low Dmin and high Dmax and excellent in photoimage shelf life after processing. SOLUTION: In the photothermographic material having, on a support, at least one image forming layer that contains at least a non-photosensitive organic silver salt, a photosensitive silver halide, a reducing agent and a binder and at least one protective layer that records no image on the side remoter from the support with respect to the image forming layer, it is characterized in that the silver iodide content of the silver halide is 5-100 mol% and the silver halide has been chemically sensitized by at least one method selected from gold sensitization, chalcogen sensitization and reduction sensitization.
