PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magnetic tape which has a high S/N ratio in an optical servo signal. SOLUTION: The magnetic tape 1 comprises: a nonmagnetic support 3; at least one prime layer and a magnetic layer 4 formed over one face of the nonmagnetic support 3 in this order; and a backcoat layer 2 formed over the other face of the nonmagnetic support 3 and containing nonmagnetic power with carbon black as one component; and a binder, wherein the backcoat layer 2 has a servo pattern 5 consisting of a concave part for optical servo formed thereon. A maximum fluctuation in the light reflectance of a flat part of the backcoat layer 2 with position of the magnetic tape: [maximum value of absolute value of (light reflectance)-(mean value of light reflectance)×100/(mean value of light reflectance)] is 10% or less.
