PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for effectively utilizing a hypochlorite capable of effective application of an excess hypochlorite, and a method for manufacturing hypochlorous acid, and a method for manufacturing a chlorohydrin compound using the hypochlorite. SOLUTION: The hypochlorite obtained by absorbing chlorine in an aqueous alkali solution is added to a hypochlorous acid generating step in which chlorine and water are reacted to obtain hypochlorous acid or to a chlorohydrin compound manufacturing process comprising the hypochlorous acid generating step and a chlorohydrin compound generating step in which the resulting hypochlorous acid is reacted with an olefinic compound to obtain the chlorohydrin compound. Since the hypochlorite reacts with hydrochloric acid present in the system to generate hypochlorous acid, an excess of the hypochlorite can be effectively utilized at a low cost.
