PURPOSE: A control apparatus for a refrigerator and a control method of the same are provided to reduce power consumption. CONSTITUTION: A control apparatus includes a customer watt-hour meter(40) measuring total power consumption of each customer; a server(10) having a database constructed with received total power consumption of each of the customers, regularly comparing the total power consumption of each of the customers with reference power consumption, and transmitting mode changing data to change operation mode of a refrigerator(50) of the corresponding customer if the total power consumption exceeds the reference power consumption; and a control part(54) of the refrigerator receiving the mode changing data from the server to control set temperature of a freezer compartment and a refrigerator compartment, and executing cooling operation based on the set temperature of the freezer compartment and the refrigerator compartment. The customer watt-hour meter and the refrigerator include power line communication modems(41,51), respectively, to execute power line communication with a gateway(30).
