PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an EL light emitting device allowing a user to easily form a desired light emission pattern. SOLUTION: In this EL light emitting device 10, a transparent resin sheet 14, an EL light emitting layer 16, an insulation layer 18, a permeation layer (conductive material holding sheet) 22, a soluble layer 24 are layered sequentially in an EL light emitting substrate 42. In the El light emitting base board 42, ink 46 containing a solvent is stuck in a desired pattern by means of an ink jet head 44 for locally dissolving the soluble layer 24 and exposing the permeation layer 22, and the permeation layer 22 is impregnated with a fluid conductive material 48. When a voltage is impressed between a back electrode 20 conducting with the conductive material 48 and the transparent conductive layer 12, an area matching the locally dissolved pattern in the soluble layer 24 is locally illuminated in the EL light emitting layer 16. Consequently, the EL light emitting substrate 42 can be easily illuminated in a desired light emitting pattern by the user. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
