PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a theft detector which does not make a malfunction even though a customer interested in displayed merchandise applies some unreasonable handling to the merchandise and reliably detects a shoplifting action when performed and does not damage the beauty of the displayed merchandise. SOLUTION: This theft detector 2 connected electrically to an alarm through a cord 4 and having a switch 9 of a push switch structure inside is screwed into a tripod screw hole of a unified standard for a camera, a video camera and a digital camera for complete insertion by using a screw driver, and the switch 9 is turned on to operate a theft detecting function in such a manner that a switch operating part 1 is pressed against a tripod screw hole bottom part 8. If a shoplifter turns the theft detector 2 with a screw driver, etc., the distance between the switch 9 and the tripod screw hole bottom part 8 reaches a fixed distance or more, the switch 9 is turned off to make the electrically connected alarm ring alarm.
