PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for manufacturing a high-density perpendicular magnetic storage medium having high SNR and thermal stability and capable of supporting a superhigh storage area density. SOLUTION: A laminated nonferromagnetic bonded magnetic storage layer for a magnetic reading medium is formed in such a manner that a stabilization layer (uppermost layer) is arranged on a main magnetic storage layer (middle layer), and another stabilization layer (bottom layer) is arranged below the main magnetic layer. The uppermost layer, the middle layer and the bottom layer are antiferromagnetically bonded. Thus, antiferromagnetic bonding on the storage layer is doubled to increase thermal stability. Further, a residual magnetization thickness product (M<SB>r</SB>δ) dangerous to a low-noise medium is reduced. Below the magnetic layer, conventional or new middle, lower and seed layers can be used. Additionally, on the magnetic layer, conventional or new overcoat and lubricant can be used. A disk thus manufactured can support a very high density data storage device. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
