PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing an oxygen-capturing packaging material which has an excellent oxygen barrier property and can prevent the deterioration in the quality of a content due to the penetration of oxygen, even when an oxygen-capturing layer is thin, and to provide an oxygen-capturing packaging material. SOLUTION: This method for producing the oxygen-capturing packaging material comprises blending an ethylene-vinyl alcohol copolymer or polyethylene terephthalate barrier resin as a carrier with an oxygen-capturing agent to form an oxygen-capturing dispersion resin, dispersing the formed oxygen-capturing dispersion resin in a polyolefin or polyamide matrix resin to form an oxygen- capturing composite material, and them forming the packaging material from the formed oxygen-capturing composite material.
