<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a material capable of controlling a galectin-9 activities by elucidating the functions performed by a carbohydrate recognition domain (CRD) and a link peptide domain of the galectin-9. <P>SOLUTION: A mutant protein associated with the CRD of the galectin-9 is constructed, and elucidated to play an important role in the exhibition of the activities. A sugar chain structure having activities for specifically bonding to the CRD is revealed.
