PURPOSE: A gamma reference voltage setting device of an LCD and a setting method using the same are provided to measure correctly a luminance value by applying alternately a positive voltage and a negative voltage to a data pad portion. CONSTITUTION: A gamma reference voltage setting device includes an LCD panel(20), a power portion(25), a luminance measurement portion(27), and a central processing portion(30). The LCD panel has a short circuit data pad portion. The power portion applies a practical data voltage to the data pad portion. The luminance measurement portion measures a luminance value of the LCD panel for receiving the practical data voltage from the power portion. The central processing portion controls the power portion to apply the practical data voltage, receives the measured luminance value from the luminance measurement portion, and sets a gamma reference voltage.
