<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image processing apparatus capable of removing patterns, etc., drawn on a road surface and extracting only an area set including objects with height by extracting only a set of an area including a shadow area when an object is detected from an image photographed with a bird's- eye-view by an artificial satellite and an aircraft. <P>SOLUTION: The image processing apparatus is constituted of an edge extraction part 1, an are separation part 2, an area information collection part 3, a background area removal part 4, a line area removal part 5, an area integration part 6 and an integrated area selection part 7, the image photographed with the bird's-eye-view is divided into areas with similar brightness, areas in adjacent relation are integrated into one integrated area among a plurality of the divided areas, a selection reference value is calculated based on brightness average of the integrated area, an area with the brightness average lower than the selection reference value is selected among the integrated areas and the selected area is defined as the shadow area in an object to be detected. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO |
