PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a novel regioselective and stereoselective method for producing a 1,3-diol derivative. SOLUTION: This novel regioselective and stereoselective method for producing the 1,3-diol derivative is to react a 2,3-epoxy alcohol with a nucleophilic reagent in the presence of a boric acid ester.
