PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the low temperature air separating method and device using a multiple column type distillation device increasing its function within the restriction of a diameter of a determined maximum column part. SOLUTION: In this method, the cooled material air 100 is supplied to a high-pressure column 10 to be separated into a nitrogen rich column top vapor and crude liquid oxygen 120, at least one of low-pressure column material flows 104, 106, 120 including nitrogen and oxygen is supplied to a low-pressure column 30 to be separated into nitrogen rich column top vapor 130 and liquid oxygen 140, and the liquid flow 110 from the high-pressure column 10 or obtained from the high-pressure column 10 is supplied to the low-pressure column 30 as reflux flow. An oxygen-containing gas 150 including oxygen of approximately 50 mol % or less is supplied to an auxiliary separation column 40 to be separated into nitrogen rich auxiliary column top vapor 152 and oxygen rich liquid 154. The oxygen rich liquid 154 from the auxiliary column 40 is supplied to an intermediate part of the low-pressure column, and the liquid flow 112 from the high-pressure column or obtained from the high-pressure column is supplied to the auxiliary column 40 as the reflux flow.
