Disclosed is a method for producing highly pure alkaline aluminum halogenides of general formula Al<sb>2</sb>(OH)<sb>n</sb>Hal<sb>z</sb>, Hal being a halogen atom, preferably chlorine, n being a figure between 4.5 and 5.1, and z being a figure between 1.5 and 0.9, and the sum of n + z always being 6. An aqueous solution of alkaline aluminum halogenides is treated at a temperature of 70 to 140 °C with metallic aluminum having a degree of purity of at least 99.5%.
