PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method and equipment for cleaning solid matter- containing water contaminated by organic halogen compounds by which organic halogen compounds sticking to solid matter can be treated at ordinary temperature and pressure. SOLUTION: Raw water 1 which is solid matter-containing water contaminated by organic halogen compounds is subjected to coagulation sedimentation treatment in a coagulation sedimentation tank 2 to separate clear supernatant liquid 3 from sediment 4. This sediment 4 is dehydrated with a dehydration unit 5 for dehydrating to separate released water 6 from solid matter 7. This solid matter 7 is made harmless by washing with an organic solvent in a washing unit 8, and the clear supernatant liquid 3 after the coagulation sedimentation treatment, the released water 6 after the dehydration and the used washing liquid are introduced into a UV reaction vessel 12 and dehalogenated under irradiation with UV from a UV lamp 13.
