Novel b -aryl- a -oxysubstituted alkylcarboxylic acids of formula (I) and compositions containing them. The compounds have hypolipidemic, antihyperglycemic uses. The intermediates specified for preparing the above are: and wherein R5 and R6 are preferably H, R7 and R8 are preferably lower alkyls, Ar is preferably phenyl and L' is either a halogen or a sulfonate.
