The parquet floorboard (1) consists of a top layer (2) of hard wood, a center layer (3) of MDF/HDF, and a backing layer of soft wood. The board on one long (5) and one short side has a continuous connecting tongue (6), and on the respective other long (7) and short sides a groove (8) conforming to the cross section of the tongues. Slots (11) are formed in the center layer extending from the flat side adjoining the backing layer, and penetrate the center layer by a depth which is greater than half the center layer's thickness. The slots form panels (13), the width (B1) of which is about a half the width (B) of the whole floorboard.
