<p>Fiber-optic cable (42) is dispensed underwater into a trench from a vehicle moving along the bed of the body of water. The cable is wound on a stationary spool (60) and dispensed over the end of the spool by a rotary arm (78) driven by a motor (70) controlled to maintain a desired tension in the cable. The cable has a fiber optic core (44) laminate of copper tape (56) adhered to plastic tape (58) wound around the wire.</p> |
