PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a plant growing unit having a simple structure and capable of greening fences, walls or a roof of a building, or the like at a low cost. SOLUTION: The plant growing unit 10 is obtained by charging culture soil 30 where seeds of a plant such as turf to be raised and a water-absorbing polymer are mixed together, into a bag-shaped natural linen cloth 19 divided into areas 12a, 12b and the like. The method for growing plants comprises the following process: attaching the plant growing unit 10 on a wall or a roof, supplying water to the culture soil 30 held in the natural linen fabric 19 so as to make the water-absorbing polymer swell so that the areas 12a, 12b are filled with the culture soil 30. In this method, turfs 31 germinate in the culture soil 30 and come into buds out of the gap of the natural linen fabric 19. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
