PURPOSE: A method for processing a perceptual error and an image coding apparatus using the same are provided to improve temporal and spatial correlation of image data by applying a human color perceptual characteristic, thereby improving the encoding efficiency of images. CONSTITUTION: A perceptual error processor(39) decides a perceptual color tolerance size of each frame pixel of an original frame to be encoded, by using a look-up table. In the case of an intra frame, a prediction error is defined by using a mean pixel value of the encoded frame. In the case of an inter frame, a prediction error is defined by using a difference between a predicted frame and the original frame formed by a motor estimator(35) and a motion compensator(37). Predicted errors of frame type image pixels are compared with the perceptual color tolerance size of each frame pixel to decide a preceptual error frame formed of only errors generating perceptual color differences. |
