The seat for a motor vehicle has a squab frame (3) with front (4) and rear locks for releasable connection to the vehicle chassis. The front lock has two bolts (5,6) which are parallel and horizontal and engage in a slot (3a) in the squab frame. The lock engages a stop on the vehicle structure. The stop has a cut out to hold the sides (3f,g) of the squab in the forwardly folded position.
