In an incinerator 901 waste and sludge combusts together and a cooler 902 cools the exhaust gas temperature, measured at the inlet to an electrostatic precipitator (fig 35,904) to less than 230 degrees Celsius, to reduce the emission of dioxins. Cooler 902 comprises a water spray cooler with the rate of water spray being controlled to effect control of the exhaust gas temperature. Incinerator 901 is further equipped with a waste hopper 901a, a sludge supply hopper 901b, a temperature sensor 907, temperature controller 908, an exhaust gas treating device 903, a fan 905 and a stack 906. |
