The machine for laying and joining pipes, in trenches to be refilled and the like, has a carrier frame (1) on a powered chassis, with a track width greater than the trench width. At least one lifter (4) is mounted to the carrier frame, with a jib where its maximum swing position is at least a semi-circle larger than the longitudinal extension of the machine. A second lifter is at a vertical auxiliary frame (5) on the carrier frame, with a grip which extends to the base of the trench and to the pipe transfer point or the point where pipes are taken from a magazine. The carrier frame also has a unit to fill the trench with material taken from a supply point.
