PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a dampening water composition for a lithographic printing plate which can be substituted for isopropyl alcohol, which is satisfactory and safe in respect to a working environment and has a low dynamic surface tension, which exerts excellent and stable continuous printability even under the condition of a member rotating at a high speed and exerts the printability for various printing machines and which enables attainment of excellent printed matter in respect to every sort of ink. SOLUTION: The dampening water composition for a lithographic printing plate containing at least one kind of compound shown in general formula (I) (where R<SB>1</SB>denotes a 3-6C alkyl, R<SB>2</SB>methyl or a hydrogen atom and n an integer of 1-3) and at least one compound shown in general formula (II) (where R<SB>3</SB>and R<SB>4</SB>denote respectively and independently methyl, ethyl or isopropyl), and a method of lithography using the same, are provided.
