<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element which can maintain the accuracy even when it is used for an optical appliance such as an image display device or the like and which hardly causes changes in the optical characteristics even when load is added to the assembled optical appliance. <P>SOLUTION: The optical element comprises a supporting material and an optical functional layer formed by hardening a polymerizable liquid crystal material having specified regularity of a liquid crystal on the supporting material.
