The invention relates to a plate comprising a base provided with an electroluminescent layer covered with a light-transmitting plastic layer. The invention also relates to a method for fabricating said plate. The aim of the invention is to allow production of plates, especially licence plates, which can be produced in a substantially fraudless and cost-effective manner. For that purpose, light-absorbing alphanumerical characters are glued on the plastic layer in such a way that at least the contours of the characters remain recognisable after removal of said characters.
