The adjustable seat has a seat portion (2b) and a backrest portion (2a) mounted on a pivot (4). The angle (alpha) between the seat and the backrest may be varied. There is an operating cylinder (7) for the U-shaped rollover bar (8) on either side of the seat back, and set at an angle (beta) to the rear surface of the seatback. There is a headrest (3) immediately in front of the rollover bar. The bar is deployed by forward swinging of the seat back during rapid deceleration and protrudes above the folded-down roof of the car (6).
