A method for securely connecting pipe sections has the ends of the pipes overlapping, and with the outer pipe section fitted with a hollow ridge to hold a seal between the pipes. A flange on the outside of the inner pipe locates against the seal ridge and the ridge and flange are clamped axially by an outer clamping ring. This provides a secure seal with a minimum of overlap.
