PURPOSE: A method for preparing a spherical boron oxide-based red fluorescent substance by hydrolysis is provided, to enable a single phase of fluorescent substance at a relatively low temperature to be prepared compared with that of existing solid method, with using a smaller amount of expensive rare earth metals. CONSTITUTION: The method comprises the steps of adding tetraethylorthosilicate, liquid ammonia and water to ethyl alcohol and mixing the mixture to precipitate silicic acid hydrate; dispersing the silicic acid hydrate in a precursor aqueous solution comprising Y, Gd, Eu, B and urea, and hydrolyzing the solution at 70-90 deg.C to adjust pH to be 5-10 for precipitating basic carbonate and hydroxide; and filtering and drying the basic carbonate and hydroxide and heating the dried one at 800-1,100 deg.C to prepare a spherical boron oxide-based red fluorescent substance represented by (Y1-x-yGdx)BO3:Eu, wherein 0<=x<=1.0 and 0.01<=y<=0.2. |
