A novel digester is provided herein, which includes, as an essential element , a novel strainer device. The strainer device includes a plurality of bars which are arranged in parallel, and which are fixed to at least two rod elements which are placed transversely in relation to the lengthwise extension of the bar-strainers. The rod elements being made of metal and the metal having a very good specified strength. The length of the rod element in a transverse direction in relation to the lengthwise extension of the bar- strainers, being less than 800 mm, the cross-sectional area of the rod elements exceeding 500 mm2 and each end section of each rod element being adapted for interaction with a supporting element.
