PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical element that can prevent fungus and a tarnish of lens without giving optical restraint. SOLUTION: In a lens holding a marginal part of a glass substrate 32 and giving an antireflection coat 33 on the surface of the glass substrate 32, a water- repellent coat 33 is formed on an uncoated area 32a of the glass substrate 32. A water-repellent coating 34 can be formed not only in the uncoated area 32a of the glass substrate 32 but also in an area in the vicinity of the uncoated area 32a of the antireflection coating 33 or it can be formed on the side 32b of the glass substrate 32. Thus, forming the water-repellent coat 34 can prevent moisture from adhering to the interface between a holding frame and a lens 13. COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO
