PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a compact and slim rotary type information recording and reproducing apparatus that prevents a magnet/yoke assembly, which vibrates in response to a carriage drive reaction force when positioning the head of the rotary information recording and reproducing apparatus, from exciting an information recording disk via a base. SOLUTION: The rotary type information recording and reproducing apparatus has a magnet/yoke assembly comprising an upper yoke 9A to which a permanent magnet 10A is bonded and a lower yoke 9B to which a permanent magnet 10B is bonded, sandwiched by guide members 11A, 11C and pre-load viscoelastic members 12A, 12C; and at the same time, the magnet/yoke assembly is damped and supported by a cylindrical viscoelastic member holding screw 13B in such a way that it can be minutely displaced in the in-plane direction of the base 8A.
