<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To manufacture a print head provided with a nozzle plate face which is processed with laser abrasion, and is hydrophobic or is covered with a hydrophobic coating film. <P>SOLUTION: This method comprises a step of forming an article composed of one or more layers and a step of processing this article using a laser having a wavelength of between about 210 and about 360 nm. At least one of the layers comprises a hydrophobic fluorine-containing graft copolymer derived from at least one kind of fluorine-containing monomers and at least one kind of comonomers that contain at least one aromatic group. This graft copolymer has absorption for radiation of the above-mentioned wavelength range. The article formed with the laser abrasion includes the nozzle plate for an ink jet print head, and this nozzle plate is provided with ink jet openings formed through the laser abrasion and has a polymer substrate coated with the hydrophobic fluorine-containing graft copolymer which permits the laser abrasion. <P>COPYRIGHT: (C)2003,JPO</p> |
