PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for applying a coating material by which an adverse effect due to a monotonous increase in the thickness of a coating film to be generated by a spin- coating process in a base material with a curved surface part, can be reduced and the thickness of the coating film can be prevented from becoming nonuniform so that a difference in the nonuniformity of a coating film thickness between the parts does not become conspicuous, when a coating step is performed a plurality of times, and a base material to be coated, a method for manufacturing a base material to be coated and a device for applying a coating material including a base material to be coated. SOLUTION: The coating material is applied to the base material to be coated with a curved surface part by rotating the base material to be coated to which the coating material is applied. In the rotary coating step, the coating material is continuously made to flow to the top of the curved surface part. Further, this coating material made to flow to the top following the rotation of the base material to be coated at a specified first number of rotation, is applied, while running increasingly smoothly toward the circumferential face part of the periphery of the curved surface part from the top, in almost uniformly maintained thickness of the coating film. In the rotary step, the continuous supply of the coating material is suspended to rotate the base material with the applied coating material at a second larger number of rotations than the first number of rotations.
