PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a new sulfoalkoxy group-bearing polyarylene ether sulfone that is useful as a precursor of high-molecular-weight material having both of excellent heat resistance and of electric properties and to provide a method of producing the same. SOLUTION: The sulfoalkoxy group-bearing polyarylene ether sulfone is represented by general formula (1) (wherein R<1> and R<2> are independently from each other H, a 1-6C alkyl; R<3> is a 1-10C alkylene; m is 0 or 1; n is 0 or 1; a, b, c, d are each an integer of 0-4 wherein a+b+c+d>0). The sulfoalkoxy group-bearing polyarylene ether sulfone is produced from a polyarylene ether sulfone bearing a hydroxy group.
