PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a sewing machine for cycle sewing which can deal with various sewing conditions and with which work efficiency can be improved. SOLUTION: The sewing machine (1) for cycle sewing decides a timing to start relatively moving a button (B) and a needle (5) on the basis of the vertical position of the needle in a button sewing process for sewing the button on an object to be sewn in a horizontal state and a root winding sewing process for winding a root thread (T) formed between the button and the object to be sewn in the vertical state of the button. Therefore, in the button sewing process and the root winding sewing process, sewing work can be performed correspondingly to the form or kind of a fabric or button and workability or accuracy in sewing work can be improved.
