PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an active matrix type display of a low power consumption. SOLUTION: In the active matrix type display of this invention which has a negative power supply voltage generation circuit for receiving a power supply voltage and a predetermined control signal for inputs, generating and outputting a negative power supply voltage of the negative polarity, and supplying it to a gate driver, a signal voltage for controlling generation of the negative power supply voltage is supplied to the negative power supply voltage generation circuit, and the negative power supply voltage generation circuit operates only while the signal voltage is being supplied. Thus, the negative power supply voltage generation circuit is halted while the consumption current of the negative power supply voltage is low and the power consumed in this circuit can be eliminated, therefore, the active matrix type display of a low power consumption can be provided.
