METHOD OF PREPARING COMPOUNDS WITH A GROUP 5A ELEMENT THEREIN

According to the present invention there is provided a method of preparing a compound which includes a group 5A element therein comprising the steps of providing a nucleophilic compound (A) in the form of an organic compound which includes a nucleophilic carbon atom and at least one functional group (A<1>) which includes 0, S, N, or P as a nucleophile or a masked nucleophile; and providing compound (B) of the formula: (X<B>)mM(R<B>)n. Compound (A) is then mixed with compound (B) thereby causing a reaction whereby at least one leaving group x<B> on compound (B) is substituted to form an intermediate compound (C). Optionally, the functional group (A<1>) is deprotected in the intermediate compound (C) where (A<1>) is a masked nucleophile. The intermediate compound (C) is then admixed with any suitable electrophilic compound (0) in order that the electrophilic compound binds to the nucleophilic functional group (A<1>) thereby to provide a compound which includes a group 5A element.
