<p>It is intended to provide proteins binding to keratin which is the major component of body hair and genes encoding the same, in particular, hair keratin-associated proteins (KAPs) strongly binding specifically to hair keratin and genes encoding the same. 16 KAP genes expressed exclusively in hair root cells are found out by determining the base sequence of the true chromatin domain (about 33.5 Mb) in human 21st chromosome, subjecting the base sequence of the long-arm domain (21q22.3) of the 21st chromosome to dot matrix analysis, and searching for homology of low-frequency repetitive sequences. Moreover, 22 KAP genes are found out by masking high-frequency repetitive sequences occurring between CLDN8 gene and TIAM1 gene in the long-arm domain (21q22.11) of the 21st chromosome and searching for the presence/absence of short low-frequency repetitive sequences.</p> |
