<p>The invention relates to an internal combustion engine with spark ignition and direct fuel injection. The inventive engine comprises: a cylinder (1); a cylinder head (2); a piston (3) which is mounted to slide in the cylinder (1); a combustion chamber (4) which is defined in the cylinder (1) between the cylinder head (2) and the piston (3); a fuel injector (5) which opens into the combustion chamber (4); a spark plug (6); inlet (71) and exhaust (72) valves; and a fuel injection pump (8) which supplies the injector (5) with a flow of pressurised fuel. According to the invention, the pressure of the fuel flow supplied to the injector (5) exceeds 300 bar and, preferably, reaches or exceeds 500 bar.</p> |
