PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an edge coater capable of being applied for coating the edge surface of a building plate, that is, any of the upper and lower tongue part including an end grain part and capable of excellently coating even the edge surface to-be-coated having any cross sectional shape. SOLUTION: A coating chamber 20 and a gas/liquid separating means 40 are provided between a coating material reservoir 26 of the lower position and a section means (suction blower 81) of the upper position. In a coasting chamber, a building plate putting passage is provided in a position where the upward flow in the coating chamber which occurs by the evacuation by the suction means is partially blocked. The edge surface of the building plate 1 to be coated is exposed in the coating chamber from the building plate putting passage. The coating material in the coating material reservoir forms a liquid film-like flow (f) and is moved upward by the sucking action of the suction means. At this time, the edge surface of the building plate is coated.
